About Me

As a medical oncologist, Dr. Rivera specializes in managing the care and treatment of people with cancer. He brings extensive expertise from over 24-years experience at renowned cancer treatment hospitals.

Dr. Rivera received his doctorate in medicine at the University of Puerto Rico, in San Juan, Puerto Rico and completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio Texas. He then completed a three-year fellowship in Medical Oncology at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.

He served for a time as Medical Director of Methodist Hospital’s Breast Center in Houston, Texas. Prior to coming to Kingman, he served as Medical Director of the prestigious Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center in Gilbert, Arizona.

Since 1997, Dr. Rivera has also served as a Professor of Medicine on the faculty of the University of Texas, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in the Breast Medical Oncology Department. He has conducted extensive medical research on various cancer treatments and therapies, with an emphasis on breast cancer. He has authored over sixty published cancer research papers and is considered one of the nation’s foremost authorities on breast cancer.

Additionally, Dr. Rivera has received numerous awards acknowledging his skill and commitment to cancer care, which include recognition by Arizona Business Leaders, Valle Del Sol, Health and Fitness Magazine, the Breast Cancer Network of Strength, and Bristol Myers Squibb.

With his training and experience, Dr. Rivera specializes in state-of-the-art treatments for all types of cancer. Considering each patient's specific cancer, overall health, and other medical needs, Dr. Rivera collaborates with the individual to develop and implement a treatment plan. He collaborates with other medical providers to monitor his patients' progress through treatment and survivorship, taking care to address any side effects of cancer treatment through therapies or medication.

In describing his approach to patient care, Dr. Rivera states "I work to combat my patients’ cancer with everything modern medicine has to offer. But, through my years of experience, I've realized that the most important part of my job is to be a counselor and advisor to my patients and their families so they have the information they need to make educated decisions about their care."
