The Fundamental Critical Care Support (FCCS) course spans over two days, designed to educate non-intensivist medical professionals on fundamental assessments and the management of critically ill patients. Given the intricate nature of critical care settings, a baseline level of knowledge, skills, and attitude is crucial to administer care effectively. This comprehensive program blends didactic sessions and simulation scenarios, evaluating proficiency and imparting evidence-based practices while upholding patient safety and top-tier care quality. Specifically tailored for non-critical care physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants lacking formal critical care training, FCCS delivers a systematic approach to the initial management of acutely ill patients.

Requirements to attend: This course is open to licensed healthcare providers involved in caring for critically ill patients, such as physicians, physician residents, critical care nurse practitioners, registered nurses (with recommended >2 years of experience), respiratory therapists, and clinical pharmacists. ACLS certification is a prerequisite for attendance.

Learning Objectives: By the conclusion of this course, participants will achieve the following:

  • Prioritize assessment needs for critically ill and injured patients.
  • Choose appropriate diagnostic tests.
  • Identify and promptly respond to significant changes in unstable patients.
  • Recognize and initiate management of acute life-threatening conditions.
  • Determine the necessity for expert consultation or patient transfer.

Participants seeking the certificate of successful completion must attend all didactic lectures, proficiently complete all skill stations, and attain a score of 70% or above on the course posttest.
