Sarah L. Knievel, M.D.
Kingman, AZ 86409
Dr. Sarah Knievel is an expert in diagnosing the cause of pain and treating it with advanced pain management methods and technologies.
Dr. Knievel attended medical school at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver, Colorado. She completed an internship in internal medicine at the St. Joseph Exempla Hospital in Denver and a residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Most recently, she completed a fellowship in pain medicine also at Mayo Clinic in Rochester.
As a fellowship trained pain specialist, Dr. Knievel is skilled in the latest advances for pinpointing and treating the source of pain; including nerve, joint, bone, or muscle pain. Her expertise includes image-guided injection therapies, spinal cord stimulation, and radiofrequency neurotomy (a procedure using radio waves to reduce back and neck pain).
Dr. Knievel says her approach to pain management is to “restore wellness.” Whenever possible, she uses methods for managing pain that do not involve the extended use of medications. With her additional background in physical medicine and rehabilitation, she also employs the proper physical therapy and exercise for addressing her patients’ individual pain issues. Her clinic also focuses on the behavioral health component of chronic pain, including education groups for mindfulness, cognitive behavioral therapy and pain support groups.
In further describing her approach, she adds, “I thoroughly evaluate the patient’s condition and prescribe an individually-tailored treatment plan to address their particular needs. This will usually involve a combination of approaches aimed at treating the core of their pain and improving their overall wellbeing.”
