About Me

Dr. Cornelsen is an expert in the surgical and nonsurgical treatment of bones, joints, and ligaments. He is especially skilled in treating sports injuries, with expertise in minimally-invasive arthroscopic procedures for the knee, shoulder, hip, and ankle. He is also highly skilled in the latest techniques for joint replacement or partial-joint replacement in shoulders, knees, and hips. Additionally he performs reconstructive ligament and cartilage surgery.

Dr. Cornelsen states that he entered medicine to “make a difference in people's lives.” He chose to specialize in orthopedics and sports medicine to complement his life-long love of sports. In addition to participating in various team sports, he is an avid rock climber, runner, and golfer. In the past, he has assisted as a team physician for the Minnesota Twins and the University of Minnesota football and wrestling teams. He also provided medical care at such athletic events as the USA Cup soccer tournament, the Big Ten hockey tournament, the Twin Cities Marathon, and at numerous college and high school sporting events.

In describing his approach to patient care, Dr. Cornelsen states: “There can be different options for treating bone and joint problems, so it’s very important that I take whatever time is necessary to educate my patients so they can make well-informed choices.” He adds, “I hope people find me friendly and approachable so they feel comfortable asking questions and discussing their concerns.”
