Tissue & Blood Donation for Cancer Research

Study name: The Cancer Moonshot Biobank

Description: Cancer treatments don’t work the same way for everyone – samples from many different communities will help us understand why this is and how to improve care. Through the Cancer Moonshot Biobank, researchers plan to collect, store, and study tissue samples donated by more than 1,000 people with cancer. Researchers will use the donated samples, along with other medical information, to:

  • Understand why some cancers respond to a certain cancer treatment and others do not
  •  Learn more about how cancer changes over time
  •  Find better ways to treat cancer in the future

Who can participate?

If you have cancer, you can donate samples from your medical procedures. Samples will include blood and tissue, and potentially other sample types.

What to expect

If you choose to take part in this research study, samples and information will be collected from you over the course of your cancer treatment.

The Biobank will provide you and your doctor with the results of a comprehensive tumor profile, also known as a biomarker test, which can help your doctor find new treatments or clinical trials specific to your individual cancer. There is no charge for the test.

You will be able to access your tumor profile information through a National Cancer Institute website, MoonshotBiobank.cancer.gov. Information on the site is protected by passwords. Only you and approved members of the research team will be able to access it. This website also has helpful information about the study for anyone who may be interested.

Please talk with your doctor about whether this clinical trial is right for you.
