Thanks for visiting our Outpatient Nutritional Services department's web page. We will try to answer some of your questions about outpatient nutritional education and give you some basic information. If you cannot find the answers to your questions here, please call us at (928) 692-4607 or email at diabetesedu@azkrmc.com. We will be glad to help you and possibly get you started on the road to better health and a better quality of life!
What is outpatient nutritional
education?
If your physician feels that you would benefit from nutritional counseling,
for things such as diabetes, weight management, or heart disease, we have
just what you are looking for. Your insurance may even cover it! We offer
individual counseling, ranging from 1 session to many, and/or group classes,
where we teach in depth information in diabetes self-management. These group
classes go over everything from taking your medications, to foot care, to
making healthy meals with just the right balance for diabetes.
Why would I want myself or
my spouse to be in an outpatient nutritional education program?
If you have diabetes, or heart
disease, or need help with managing your weight, these issues can cause
you serious health problems. By properly eating a good diet, with just the
right amount of calories (customized for you), and learning how to treat
yourself if you have diabetes, we can help you reduce your risk for further
health problems.
How will I be able to afford
this program?
Most insurances cover the program.
Medicare will cover 80% of the charges if you qualify. Diabetes, heart disease,
and weight management are just a few of the things that might be covered
by your insurance carrier. Give us a ring or talk with your doctor about
it. However, when you look at the benefits of the program compared to the
costs, even if you have to self-pay, the program is well worth the financial
costs.
How do I get into the program?
To participate in the program,
simply mention it to your physician and tell him/her that you are interested.
If he/she feels that it would be appropriate for you, he/she will write
a prescription for outpatient nutritional education/counseling. Then, all
you do is get hold of us, and we will help you with the rest. You can also
have your physician contact us or give us the prescription for you, and
we will assist him/her in getting you started. To contact us, you can call
us at (928) 692-4607 or email us at diabetesedu@azkrmc.com
or
nutrition@azkrmc.com
We look forward to hearing from you, and we hope that we may someday be able to help you or a family member with your health concerns.
