Arizona Department of Health Services Presents KRMC The Arizona Department of Health Services Bureau of Tobacco Education & Prevention recently presented Kingman Regional Medical Center with a Certificate of Excellence for its work in making its hospital tobacco-free and for encouraging others to quit using tobacco. Kingman Regional Medical Center became tobacco-free in July 2005. “The certificate tells people that Kingman Regional Medical Center is committed to helping tobacco users in Mohave County quit and to maintain healthy lifestyles,” said Louise J. Strayer, Director of The University of Arizona HealthCare Partnership, a program funded by the Arizona excise tobacco tax through the Arizona Department of Health Services Bureau of Tobacco Education & Prevention. Strayer and Mary Gilles, MD, Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine
for The University of Arizona Department of Psychology and medical
liaison for the HealthCare Partnership, said the state office wanted
to recognize Kingman Regional Medical Center because of its extensive
efforts in assisting employees with ending tobacco use through education
and referrals to state-funded cessation resources and allowing employees
to attend cessation classes during working hours. “Kingman Regional Medical Center addressed the recommendations
from the Public Health Service Clinical Practice Guideline,” Gilles
said, “and they included all of the Arizona tobacco control
resources in that effort.” Kingman Regional Medical Center provides a full range of health and wellness services, including a beautiful wellness and fitness center, a primary care physician practice (Cerbat Medical Center), advanced medical programs in cardiology, cancer, and rehabilitation, and home health and hospice care.
