Bighearted Seven-Year-Old Gives to Ill Children at KRMC

On Wednesday, December 19, 2007, seven-year-old Cali Moon from Kingman exemplified the true spirit of Christmas by presenting Kingman Regional Medical Center’s pediatric department with toys and a children’s rocking chair for the playroom. She, her mother Shelly, and her sisters Haley (13) and Taylor (11) also gave Christmas presents to each child currently in the hospital and homemade treats to the nursing staff.

Cali has been planning and saving most of the year to purchase the toys and gifts. She says that she was in the hospital herself a few years ago and knows what it feels like to not be well and away from home. Because of this, she wanted to help other children in the same situation.

She and her family shopped for the items using money Cali had saved and collected. Part of it came from what she gave up during Lent (including money she received for her birthday, which falls during the Lenten season). Cali also collected donations from her friends and from community members while doing service projects with her family.

All three of the Moon children are home-schooled by their mother. As part of their schooling, they each choose activities for serving God in the community. Some of the girls’ projects have included making blankets for the Advice & Aid Pregnancy Center, delivering flowers to shut-in elderly, and working at the food bank.

We at KRMC are moved by the efforts of Cali and her family and thank them for their generosity and community mindedness. They are true examples of the reason for the season!
