KRMC Beats National E.R. Wait Times

Recently, a national report on ER wait times showed that Arizona ranked 48th in the nation in average total time spent in the ER. KRMC's ER times were more than two hours shorter than the Arizona hospital average and nearly one hour shorter than hospitals nationwide.

According to Janet Gode, Director of the Emergency Department at KRMC, "Our average patient time in the ER for 2007 was 3 hours and 22 minutes." This includes the time it took to be seen by a physician and receive treatment. Hospitals in Arizona and those nationally experienced an average of 5 hours and 37 minutes and 4 hours and 18 minutes respectively.

KRMC's ER staff has worked to provide better, more efficient service. And they've seen considerable improvement in patient flow and satisfaction, despite the challenges that come with a volume that grew nearly 20% from a year ago. This quarter, the ER's patient satisfaction results are better than 84% of hospitals nationwide - - and it is inching it's way toward it's goal of becoming nationally recognized for delivering top notch emergency care.

"The success in our department is due to the cooperation and teamwork with other departments at KRMC, such as radiology, the lab, and the nursing units," Gode stated.
