“Catch It Early” Program Provides Free Mammograms toUninsured/Underinsured Women In collaboration with the Well Woman Healthcheck Program and with a grant from the Phoenix Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, KRMC will launch its new “Catch It Early” program on April 1, 2008. This program will provide uninsured/underinsured women free breast cancer screening with advanced imaging technologies (digital mammography and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)), which can improve the chances of detecting early-stage breast cancers. Arizona Cancer Registry statistics show that an average 20% of women with breast cancer in Mohave County are first diagnosed after being symptomatic with late-stage tumors. Tragically, some could not afford a mammogram that could have detected the cancer at an earlier, more survivable, stage. The “Catch It Early” program is determined to reverse this trend. KRMC’s multimillion-dollar Imaging Center includes advanced
imaging equipment that can provide early diagnosis of breast cancer.
In fact, KRMC is one of only a few providers in Arizona— and
the only one in Mohave County— to offer digital mammography. To receive services through the “Catch it Early” program, contact the Well Woman Healthcheck Program at 866-462-6667 (toll free). For those women who qualify, the mammogram will be part of an overall well-woman exam (clinical breast exam, pelvic exam, and Pap test), which is provided free-of-charge by WWHP at the KRMC Family Practice Residency Clinic, North Country Healthcare or Dr. Mané. The “Catch It Early” program leverages different funding sources in order to cover the cost of services. Those funding sources include a $69,000 grant from the Phoenix Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, $75,000 from KRMC, and $34,000 in state and federal funding, which is allocated to the Regional Center for Border Health for the Well Woman Healthcheck Program.
