Rene San Vincente, RN, CCRN

Due to his outstanding work in KRMC’s intensive care unit; critical care nurse Rene San Vincente has been named the May employee-of-the-month. As part of KRMC’s critical care team, Rene assures that acutely ill patients and their families receive optimal nursing care.

Rene grew up in the Phillipines. He graduated with a BS in nursing from Divine Word University (a large Catholic institution founded in 1927) in Tacloban City, Leyte, Phillipines. After graduation, he went to work as a critical care nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Phoenix. He was there 14 years with the exception of a 1-year nursing contract in Sai Pan, Guam.

He started at KRMC in 2004. He says that he decided to come here because he wanted to get out of the “big city” and live in a smaller friendlier town. He adds that since coming to KRMC, he thoroughly enjoys being a part of the hospital team. “We’re more like family,” he says. “People are close to each other.”

According to his coworkers, Rene is always prepared to help in whatever way he can and is “a team player in the truest sense of the phrase.” He is extremely compassionate to patients and their families and takes special care to keep them informed. He also listens intently to people’s concerns and “exudes a certain confidence that puts them at ease.”

During his short stint in Guam, Rene met his wife Carol who is now a pharmacist at Smith’s Food King. They have a son, John (3½). They enjoy traveling and just “being together,” which doesn’t happen often enough since Rene and Carol work opposite shifts (he works nights). John recently started daycare at Little Minnows, which gives Rene some much needed “sleep time.”

We’re proud to recognize Rene for the dedication and commitment that he demonstrates every day to coworkers, patients, and their families. In summing up his performance, Rene’s supervisor states that he is “a quiet leader who assists others without being asked, a strong clinician, and a great team player.” Congratulations, Rene!
