Boot Camp For New Dads is a community education
program for first time fathers. Taught by fathers, Boot Camp enables
new dads to step up to the tremendous challenge of being a dad
and feel confident bringing the new baby home.
The class is a 2 hour workshop covering
not only baby care and fatherhood but also the needs of new mothers.
The discussion centers on topics such as "Forming a New Family",
"The Changing Role of Fathers" and "Helping Mom with Breast Feeding."
There is a hands-on opportunity for prospective dads to practice
baby care skills under the guidance of veteran dads who bring
their new babies to class. And there is also interaction featuring
the best advice veteran dads can offer the rookies.
Men training other men is a powerful formula
for fatherhood success. Boot Camp veterans also benefit from networking
and mutual support when they return with their babies at a subsequent
workshop. The pride of the veterans and enthusiasm of the rookies
at the end of each workshop is exciting, particularly in light
of the need for involved fathers.
Kingman Regional Medical Center is offering
this unique program for new fathers in the Kingman community.
