Dr. Lyanna LaFredo is our featured physician for June. As a medical doctor specializing in pediatrics, she is an expert in providing preventive care, as well as treating illness and injury in infants, children, and adolescents.
Dr. LaFredo was born and raised in the Philippines, in the northern town of Dagupan. Even as a child she was fascinated with science and the human body; she knew she wanted to become a doctor. She attended the University of the Philippines College of Medicine, where she was accepted to a program for accelerated students. After graduating, she moved to the United States. Dr. LaFredo completed her residency at the State University of New York in Buffalo. Before coming to Kingman, she practiced in Columbia, South Carolina.
Dr. LaFredo is highly skilled in diagnosing and treating complex medical problems, and in providing routine health maintenance and preventive care. She has a special interest in the medical care of infants and offers prenatal consultations with expectant mothers. She also excels in the treatment of developmental problems in children, including ADHD and autism. Her patients range from newborns to young adults eighteen years of age.
Her approach to children’s medical care is to “give special attention to serious issues, but to make seeing a doctor as fun as possible for the child.†She works closely with the child’s parents or guardians to inform them of choices and involve them in every medical decision. She adds that she has “a deep respect for the parents’ cultural beliefs and authority when it comes to the medical care of their child.â€
She has been married to her husband Tim, a freelance writer, for three years. They enjoy spending time outside — biking, hiking, and learning about the Southwest. They chose to come to KRMC because they enjoy the area and like the fact that KRMC is community owned.
Dr. LaFredo is currently accepting new patients. Even when her schedule is full, she will make every effort to see a sick child who cannot wait for an appointment.
