Who owns Kingman Regional Medical Center? You Do! Hospital District Number One of Mohave County was created by voter referendum on December 7, 1982. The purpose of the formation of the District was to move the hospital from under county control with two major goals in mind: to keep healthcare costs down and to maintain local control. The boundary of the district encompasses all of Mohave County less the "Strip" area north of the Grand Canyon and school districts along the Colorado River near Bullhead City and Lake Havasu City. The hospital's land, building, and equipment are the property of everyone who resides within the District boundary. To oversee these assets for the public, a 5-member board is elected. On November 1, 1983, the District leased the hospital and equipment to Kingman Hospital, Inc. (KHI). The 25-member hospital board is elected by members of the hospital corporation. Anyone living in the District can join the hospital corporation by paying $10 for a lifetime membership. The KHI 25-member board, in turn, elects a seven-member executive
board to directly oversee hospital operations. Kingman Regional Medical
Center is a not-for-profit hospital. Any excess capital gained after
day-to-day expenses are met is used for improvements such as purchasing
